Scientists often took risks in order to achieve results. But sometimes such experiments ended in the death of the scientist himself.

Today this seems unthinkable. So, these are the most unpleasant professions of scientists in our "advanced" time.

Developer of new fuels. Our civilization is already unthinkable without energy. People are constantly looking for new fuels. But this process is quite long and painstaking. For example, the Livermore National Laboratory has been studying nuclear fuel for half a century. The researchers want to adapt it to conventional car engines. But research is not yet in sight, scientists believe that it will take another 20 years to achieve some result. These people compare themselves to the builders of medieval cathedrals. Indeed, in those days, the walls of the largest religious buildings were erected by several generations of masons at once.

To do this, the unfortunate laboratory assistants studied several tens of thousands of stool samples from people with this disease. Based on this research, Techlab was founded in the 1990s. It manufactures equipment for just such tests, and also analyzes samples sent by other doctors. The company has as many as thirty employees who are only engaged in working with feces, studying its smell, color, density. Here, microbiological analysis of human waste is also carried out.

Although laboratory technicians are equipped with special electronic devices, manual stimulation remains the simplest and most effective way to induce ejaculation in a subject. Moreover, sometimes experiments require the animal to be awake, so that anesthesia is not used in experiments. It is especially hard for those scientists who, on duty, have to deal with large animals - lions, elephants, bulls.

Mosquito researcher. Most of us, when we see a mosquito, only think about how to swat it. Meanwhile, there are biologists and medical professionals who are researching these insects to identify new ways to fight malaria. As a result, in real conditions, they literally pay with their own blood for their knowledge. Anopheles mosquitoes are encouraged to sit on the exposed parts of the bodies of scientists and eat in this way. Helga Zielr, an American researcher, has been conducting such research in Brazil for over twenty years. She calculated that in the field, she can catch or kill up to 17 mosquitoes per minute, so she has already gotten used to working with them. Of course, humans can easily be replaced by animals, which will also be to the taste of bloodsucking insects. A pig is best suited for this role. But in many countries, such treatment of pigs causes a stormy protest from organizations protecting animal rights. So people have to conduct experiments on themselves.

Microbiologist working with pathogenic microorganisms. People work with samples of microorganisms that can cause fatal disease. For this, viruses are placed in a carefully protected area. But researchers, willy-nilly, are forced to go there. It is especially dangerous when the studied microorganisms are in the form of an air suspension.

Confined Space Tester. Although such a profession cannot be found in official documents, such specialists do exist. In particular, they work for NASA. After all, spacecraft are being created there, in which astronauts will then live and work in orbit. Someone needs to check these confined spaces! This is the job of technicians and engineers who create spaceships. They test the comfort of stay, security and tightness on themselves. To do this, they spend weeks inside the capsules of the spacecraft and lead about the same lifestyle as real astronauts in space. And the profession of an astronaut itself cannot be pleasantly named.

Criminologist-sociologist. Criminology is by no means a theoretical science. Often, underworld scientists are forced to conduct their research in prisons. The most dangerous prisoners are interviewed by young female students and students. At the same time, the guards often do not participate in conversations. After all, it is believed that a prisoner at the sight of a jailer behaves more restrained and not inclined to frankness. So scientists have to be alone with murderers and rapists in pursuit of the purity of the experiment. After this, you shouldn't be surprised that during the interview, students unexpectedly become victims of their dangerous interlocutors.

Skeleton Cleaner. Scientists and taxidermists are forced to work with animal skeletons. But first they must be cleansed of the remnants of blood and flesh. To accomplish this, a very unpleasant method of digesting bones is used. It happens that the remains of dead animals are taken out into the yard, leaving them to be eaten by insects. One way or another, scientists have to deal with a very unpleasant smell.

Popularizer of the metric system. Europeans may not understand why they should popularize an already well-known and widely used system. But the fact is that the United States has adopted the traditional English system of measures and weights. They do not use the usual meters, kilograms, Celsius and liters. Americans make do with miles, pounds, feet, pints, and Fahrenheit. Back in 1975, the United States decided to gradually switch to the traditional metric system. For this, the National Institute of Standards and Technology created an appropriate division, whose employees were supposed to popularize the new measures. The life of these people turned out to be very difficult. They spend a lot of time talking to representatives of large enterprises and government officials. Scientists are trying to convince them that the transition to the metric system will be beneficial from all sides. In practice, we are not talking about science at all, it looks more like some kind of advertising campaign or trade. It got to the point that the completely confused head of this department could not name his weight in kilograms at one of the press conferences.

Cryptozoologist. Unfortunately, more and more species of rare birds and small animals can be considered lost. However, scientists cannot simply take them and delete them from the register of wildlife. That is why there are special hunters for rare animals that no one has seen for a long time. For example, in Hawaii there is a special unit of bird watchers. They are trying to find birds that have been considered extinct for twenty years. Searches are carried out every day, and each time scientists sadly come back empty-handed.

Frog executioner. Experiments on frogs are common practice in many medical and biological departments. Thus, the reflexes and characteristics of the nervous system of these animals are studied. As a result, those heads of such laboratories can be called a real frog executioner, who makes an important and fateful decision almost every day to execute hundreds and thousands of unfortunate frogs.

The ichthyologist is an accountant. How many fish are there in the sea? More than stars in the sky. Meanwhile, there are ichthyologists who are required to count fish. This kind of work can hardly be called pleasant. The most difficult time comes during spawning. Thousands of fish pass along the river in front of the scientists. It is not enough just to count them, it is also necessary to determine their belonging to this or that species. Probably, at the end of spawning, ichthyologists cannot get rid of pictures of fish swimming and jumping in front of their eyes for a long time.

Smell taster. Many food, pharmaceutical and perfume companies employ these people with a keen sense of smell. However, such work requires sacrifice. Often these specialists do not wash for literally weeks. And all in order to check how a new sample of cologne or deodorant fights off unpleasant odors.

Human gas analyzer. And finally, the most unpleasant scientific specialization. It is clear that a person is ready for anything for the sake of science. Gastroenterologist Michael Levitt from the United States is forced to do an extremely unpleasant job. It analyzes the gases that people emit after eating. For this, the scientist even came up with a special device, which consists of a special bag and is tightly attached to the anus. This made it possible for Levitt to preserve gases for a long time and to create a whole scientific collection. The brave scientist feeds his volunteers a wide variety of foods, and then evaluates the gases collected using his sense of smell. The doctor claims that with the help of the analysis of human gases, it will soon be possible to learn how to diagnose various diseases of the digestive system.
